Rich Vs Poor

There is enough food in the world to feed everyone, twice! However the majority of the world lives in starvation and poverty. This is one of the biggest continuing problems with the world. The rich in the West have more than ample amounts of everything from food, to clothes, to commodities, however they lack in one key thing, compassion.
I have worked for five years in the catering and hospitality industry and in this time I have seen the disgusting behavior of the UK’s elite. It does not matter how much they waste or how much it costs or who it will hurt, they get what they want, no matter what. Unfortunately this attitude does not stop with the U.K elite but spreads right across the globe. Therefore leading to those who do not fit in to this elite to suffer.
In the U.K the suffering is not on the kind of scale that you can see in other areas of the world. However if our politicians and our elite cared more about those suffering on their own doorstep, maybe they might begin to care about those across the globe.
Why is it that the homeless and those that live in poverty are looked after less than those who live affluent lives? Why is it so difficult for those who live privileged lives to care those less fortunate. There are so many laws preventing people from helping others, for example food that is more than two hours old and not kept in the proper storage units has to be thrown away. This prevents any major catering firm from donating food to charities. The food waste I daily witness could feed up to thirty people, however because of the constant fear of being sued or taken to court no company will dispute the law.
Unfortunately this is the case everywhere, people are too frightened of the consequences if they break the law and help others. However when it comes down to it, what is more important someone else’s life or the law?
